First, what is network marketing?

Network marketing, often referred to as multilevel marketing ( MLM ) is a system for distributing products and services through networks of thousands of distributors or “independent representatives”. Now, when it comes to network marketing companies and “pyramid schemes”, there is a difference. Even though these “pyramids” are structured like a legitimate network marketing business opportunity, they are not legal because their people are mostly rewarded for their recruiting efforts and the marketing and selling of products and services are overlooked. Inevitably, pyramids will collapse when people eventually stop recruiting, and everyone involved will lose their money.

You may hear friends and family say that the network marketing company you are involved with is a pyramid scheme. And they may go on to explain to you how the person at the top makes all the money while the reps run around doing all the work. I happen to find that argument very humorous because it could just as easily be used to explain any traditional corporation in business today, and maybe even the company that the misinformed person works for! I have studied many Network Marketing companies and I have found something very interesting. The first thing I wanted to find out is: Are travel MLMs scams? My first impression was yes they were, but if experience has taught me anything it is things are not always what they appear to be in this industry. My other experiences with Network Marketing companies had conditioned me to believe that there has to be a physical product that a potential customer can hold, taste or even smell. As I dug, I found that if there is an actual travel product then it could produce something to hold, taste and smell. So, providing it’s legitimacy, a travel MLM would be very powerful indeed. They could be the best network marketing companies. The more I dug the more I started seeing one company more than others, WorldVentures. Let me tell you what I found.

Like I said I kept coming across it and I decided to put it to the test. I ask these questions of all MLMs to decide if they are worth my effort. How old is the company? Is it a US company? Have they expanded internationally? Are they in debt? What have they earned in revenue? There are more questions you should ask but these are the most important.

So I asked all of these about WorldVentures. The most amazing thing is I couldn’t find anything negative about this company. All of the questions answered were positive. Here is what I found out. The company was founded in December 2005. A perfect age for a successful company for both the company and reps. CHECK. It is based in Plano Texas (just outside of Dallas), USA. CHECK. They have now expanded into 14 other countries. CHECK. Since their inception they have generated over 300 million dollars in revenue. CHECK. After 3 months they were debt free as a company. DOUBLE CHECK! I told you.

I also found that in 2010 World Ventures was named one of Direct Selling News’ “Global 100″, the 100 largest Direct Sales Companies Worldwide. In business all of these things are called clues.

I also took a peek at the executive team. I was blown away. The founders and the top executives are all very well known in the industries of travel and network marketing. Mike Azcue and Wayne Nugent founded the company and they have both built massive teams in MLM in the past. Mike Azcue now carries the title of CEO while Wayne Nugent is the Chief Visionary Officer. One thing I couldn’t believe was that Dan Stammen (of Pre-Paid Legal fame) sold his business and is now the head of all marketing for WorldVentures. Last but certainly not least is none other than Marc Accetta is their director of training. He took the only network marketing company ever to the #1 spot on the Inc 500 list.

Another thing I thought it was important to ask was: Is there money to be made in a travel mlm? What I found was that over half of all MLMs are in the health and wellness industry, while there are only a very small handful of companies in the travel industry. What that means is, is that there are less companies fighting over the same piece of the pie. Crazy thing is, the travel industry is the largest in the world. So lets do the math. Largest Industry, plus less companies, equals more money for everybody.

Finally I looked into their products. A travel web site called Rovia is their first product. It is in direct competition with Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz and all the rest. According to Topaz International they have the best price approximately 7 out of 10 times in a test of 100 searches. So they are doing very well. The second and best product is a vacation club called DreamTrips. This is the reason they are burying the competition. They like to say DreamTrips at DreamPrices.
